Did you just try to tell me US slavery wasn’t about race?

Filed under: Thoughts — Saint Waldo @ 10:55 PM

Yeah. Yeah, you did. As preface, anyone reading this, I’m not going to point right at who said that. But I will share with you the choicest cut of my response, because, Junior, I cooked this one up tasty:

It’s not a debate. It’s a settled issue. More US citizens died over this “argument” than in any other conflict in our history. I’m from Kansas. Bloody Kansas. Look that shit up if you want a face full of truth, if you’re honest enough to do it. This is settled, and history is written by the VICTORS my friend. The cold, hard, honest truth is that RACIAL BASED SLAVERY was the cause of the Civil War, and the side that WON gets to tell the side that lost about the TRUTH. It was race, or we wouldn’t have had BLACK SLAVES as 3/5ths of a person. If you were right, Irish girls would not have been INDENTURED, they would have been OWNED. You would have a point if that same “courtesy” had been extended even a hand-full of the Africans who were trucked over here by a bunch of glad-handing Dutch pimps. The sad fact of history that you are LYING about is that that didn’t happen. Precisely the opposite, AND YOU KNOW THIS.

That is why you feel these words and this anger. Because it’s TRUE.

There was a response:

“I mean how else can you explain the quote about him winning the war without freeing a slave?”

That’s a bullshit standard. He won the war but you can’t make people to do the right thing when you can’t put a cop on the corner without killing what you were fighting for in the first place, to wit, fucking FREEDOM. This entire attempt to assuage anything or deflect from the central crime that we are talking about means you are not ready to know how far from the jungle we are, and aren’t. That means you haven’t prepared yourself to deserve a ticket on the rest of the ride. I say this out of love and concern for you. If you ever have loved or want to love in the future, you will listen hard and listen well to what I have already told you.

I’m serious; keep trying to convince yourself that this is “nuanced”, and you will keep setting yourself up to get fucked in the head. I’m simply the one most likely to be honest about what I’m doing to you right now, and, I do heartily fear right now, probably the last.

Now, as Dennis Hopper said to Christopher Walken in True Romance, tell me, am I lying?

A Modest Defense

This is what Republicans sound like to me this week:

“OK, what happened was, I was raping in the living room…but I _wasn’t_really_raping_, OK? Because I remember how you said I wasn’t as’posed to rape in the living room anymore, right? So, when I was PLAYING in the living room, I was just moving my penis back-and-forth real fast in the air, and she was passed out at the exact same spot! It wasn’t my fault! Can’t she be fined for not labeling a dangerous gap?”

If Google-In-China Was Evil, What Is U.S. vs Wikileaks?

Hillary, quit playing Kissinger.

According to Elsberg:

“That’s a script that they roll out every time there’s a leak of any sort,” he said.

It is not leaks, but “silences and lies” that put people’s lives in danger, he believes.

And he’s right. Wikileaks is the samizdat of the present 21st century world.

Jeff Jarvis gets it while everyone else plays the role they were handed while walking on set:

The same kind of attacks on publishing that the U.S. (even unto Hillary Clinton) has repeatedly condemned China, Russia (and the former U.S.S.R.), and many others for launching. The behavior of many Wikileaks detractors and defamers defines hypocrisy.

Do we stand against tyranny, or WHAT?

What, Was UnscrupulousDipshit.com Taken?

Not that I needed any convincing that there exists not one shred of integrity or even lip service to the notion of journalistic standards at Nick Denton’s cesspool of a media stable, BUT: here’s yet another reason to stop reading anything published at a Gawker site. The last thing any of us needed was a shit-stain like you giving the C. O’D. license to play the Female Victim Card. Way to go. What do you do for an encore, invade Yugoslavia during a backflip while sticking your cock in the neighbor’s dog? Because I think that may have been a move with less chance of backfiring.

Flip the script and you’re talking about The Clenis over ten years ago, or Gary Hart ten years before that. Tittering about alleged peccadilloes was wrong then, it’s still wrong now, no matter what her platform is or how she goes about talking about “the naughty” while on the stump. If she’s not doing anything illegal, you have no business peeking in her bedroom. Even if you feel she’s trying to peek into yours. If you think you’re informing anyone that politicians don’t always advocate their own behavior, you really need a different fucking job. This move was pure politics of personal destruction, and just because the target isn’t a Democrat doesn’t make that set of tactics right, asshole.

You see, you don’t use the tactics of your enemy that you find abhorrent. That’s not “turnabout is fair play”, no matter how much you beg it to be. That’s called “using ends to justify means”. You aren’t exposing anyone’s lack of character but your own.
