Yeah. Yeah, you did. As preface, anyone reading this, I’m not going to point right at who said that. But I will share with you the choicest cut of my response, because, Junior, I cooked this one up tasty:
It’s not a debate. It’s a settled issue. More US citizens died over this “argument” than in any other conflict in our history. I’m from Kansas. Bloody Kansas. Look that shit up if you want a face full of truth, if you’re honest enough to do it. This is settled, and history is written by the VICTORS my friend. The cold, hard, honest truth is that RACIAL BASED SLAVERY was the cause of the Civil War, and the side that WON gets to tell the side that lost about the TRUTH. It was race, or we wouldn’t have had BLACK SLAVES as 3/5ths of a person. If you were right, Irish girls would not have been INDENTURED, they would have been OWNED. You would have a point if that same “courtesy” had been extended even a hand-full of the Africans who were trucked over here by a bunch of glad-handing Dutch pimps. The sad fact of history that you are LYING about is that that didn’t happen. Precisely the opposite, AND YOU KNOW THIS.
That is why you feel these words and this anger. Because it’s TRUE.
There was a response:
“I mean how else can you explain the quote about him winning the war without freeing a slave?”
That’s a bullshit standard. He won the war but you can’t make people to do the right thing when you can’t put a cop on the corner without killing what you were fighting for in the first place, to wit, fucking FREEDOM. This entire attempt to assuage anything or deflect from the central crime that we are talking about means you are not ready to know how far from the jungle we are, and aren’t. That means you haven’t prepared yourself to deserve a ticket on the rest of the ride. I say this out of love and concern for you. If you ever have loved or want to love in the future, you will listen hard and listen well to what I have already told you.
I’m serious; keep trying to convince yourself that this is “nuanced”, and you will keep setting yourself up to get fucked in the head. I’m simply the one most likely to be honest about what I’m doing to you right now, and, I do heartily fear right now, probably the last.
Now, as Dennis Hopper said to Christopher Walken in True Romance, tell me, am I lying?
